India and its neighbors are rich in avifauna, and A Photographic Guide to the Birds of India can help birders become familiar with the region's species for proper identification for the more than 650 species covered in this compact volume. To go more in-depth and intended as both identification and educational, most of the Field Guides limited themselves to North America, while the Golden Guides were usually worldwide. And don't get me wrong - I still love birds and the two precious ones I own, but I'm just less crazy about it.

The thing I did not like about this feature is that while you can continue to add sightings to a Location each sighting must be a new list with a specific date and time (you can reuse a particular location). You can enter the site at SibleyBirds.com, and you will also find a brief discussion of the art of estimating numbers. The book has some 360 pages with very good illustrations and information about each individual bird. Try out iBird for free with iBird Lite Guide to Birds, which includes 60 sample species. Currently all you can do is email yourself sightings one species at a time. I've noticed that many of the ones at the Dole plantation have deformed feet and I've wondered if it has something to do with exposure to agri-chemicals or perhaps with whatever they are eating there.

I haven't visited Philippines and do not have this field guide, but I have read the content of this field guide in the library at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
